The Music Industry Is Dead,  I Blame Grumpy Cat.

The Bitter Truth is the music industry is dead! And I blame Grumpy Cat.  Last week at the long running music conference South By Southwest  in Austin, Texas the media was all a buzz about one act act appearing at the convention.  This artist had thousands of people lined up waiting hours for a chance to see and get a picture with their hero.  And who/what was the focus of all that excitement and media attention? None other than the internet sensation Grumpy Cat.

Which is great!.  After all the South By Southwest (hipsters know it as SXSW) convention was established with the focus of exposing new artists to the public and launching careers.  The only problem is  that Grumpy Cat is not a buzz worthy indie rock band from England or an inner city hip hop MC with mad skills.  It's actually a cat!  A freaking feline!   An ugly pet with a sour puss that has been getting tens of thousands of likes on social media sites Facebook and Instagram.

When the biggest story to come out of music convention is about a cat then it is time to cancel the SXSW (Yup, I'm a hipster) Convention.  Hell, cancel all conventions/conclave and meetings relating the the music industry.  Yes, even you CMJ (College Music Journal) Music Marathon should do it now before "Ricky The Roach" becomes the most talked about acts at this  years New York City gathering.  Because it is over.  Sure the music industry has been dying for years.  Cd sales are down.  Labels have closed.  Those still left in the music business are a small group of rag tag warriors holding on for dear life.  Artists have taken back control of their career and YouTube is the new MTV exposing new music to a whole new generation.  No one needs the business or antiquated outings talk about "how great things used to be. "

Grumpy Cat ruling SXSW means it is finally time to take a good hard look at the remnants of the music business and call time of death.  It's over.  And that's The Bitter Truth.

Being a dad is the greatest job I've ever had.  And it's a huge pain in the ass.
